Lymphatic System

Your body's sewage system. The lymphatic system is a network of vessels and nodes that drains excess fluid from tissues, transports immune cells, and removes cellular waste. Unlike blood, lymph has no heart—it relies on muscle movement, breathing, and gravity. Stagnant lymph = buildup of toxins.

What the Lymphatic System Does

Fluid Drainage

Collects excess interstitial fluid leaked from capillaries. Returns it to blood. Prevents swelling.

Immune Transport

Carries immune cells through body. Lymph nodes filter pathogens. Activate immune response.

Waste Removal

Removes cellular debris, dead cells, toxins from tissues. Essential detox pathway.

Fat Absorption

Lacteals in gut absorb dietary fats. Transport to blood as chyle. Fat-soluble vitamins too.

Protein Return

Returns leaked proteins to blood. Maintains blood protein concentration. Oncotic pressure.

Brain Drainage

Glymphatic system drains brain waste during sleep. Clears amyloid. Sleep is brain lymph time.

What Moves Lymph

Since lymph has no dedicated pump, it relies on external forces:

Physical Movement

  • Muscle contraction: Squeezes lymph vessels. Walking is basic lymph pump.
  • Deep breathing: Creates pressure changes. Diaphragm movement pumps lymph.
  • Rebounding: Jumping on trampoline. Valves open and close with each bounce.
  • Massage: Manual lymph drainage. Push fluid toward nodes.

Other Factors

  • Dry brushing: Skin stimulation encourages surface lymph flow.
  • Hydration: Lymph is mostly water. Dehydration thickens it.
  • Temperature: Contrast showers (hot/cold) stimulate flow.
  • Gravity: Legs elevated helps drainage. Inversions too.

Signs of Lymphatic Congestion

Swelling

Puffy face in morning, swollen ankles, ring marks on fingers.

Fatigue

Sluggishness, feeling "toxic." Waste not being cleared efficiently.

Skin Issues

Cellulite, dry skin, acne breakouts. Skin reflects lymph health.

Stiffness

Morning stiffness, soreness. Fluid and waste accumulation in tissues.

Recurring Infections

Poor lymph = poor immune circulation. Frequent colds, sinus issues.

Brain Fog

Glymphatic congestion. Poor waste clearance from brain.
