Pituitary Gland

The master gland. Your pituitary, a pea-sized structure at the base of the brain, controls other endocrine glands. It releases hormones that regulate growth, metabolism, reproduction, and stress response. When the pituitary is off, everything downstream suffers.

Pituitary Hormones

TSH

Thyroid stimulating hormone. Controls thyroid output. Metabolism regulation.

ACTH

Adrenocorticotropic hormone. Stimulates cortisol. Stress response.

GH

Growth hormone. Muscle, bone, tissue repair. Anti-aging interest.

FSH/LH

Follicle stimulating, luteinizing. Control ovaries/testes. Fertility.

Prolactin

Milk production. Elevated prolactin problematic. Dopamine regulates.

ADH/Oxytocin

From posterior pituitary. Water balance. Bonding hormone.

Pituitary Dysfunction

Adenomas

Benign tumors common. Can over/underproduce hormones. Visual symptoms.

Hypopituitarism

Under-active. Multiple hormone deficiencies. Fatigue, cold, weakness.

High Prolactin

Prolactinoma common. Kills libido. Fertility issues. Treatable.

Secondary Thyroid

Low TSH causes hypothyroidism. Central, not primary. Different treatment.

GH Deficiency

Poor body composition. Low energy. Decreased bone density.

Cushing's

ACTH-producing adenoma. Too much cortisol. Weight gain, moon face.

Supporting Pituitary Health

Sleep Quality

Growth hormone peaks during sleep. Prioritize deep sleep. 7-9 hours.

Stress Management

Chronic stress affects HPA axis. Elevated ACTH. Burnout potential.

Blood Sugar Balance

Affects growth hormone release. Avoid constant snacking. Some fasting.
